Who should attend?

This course will form a 7 hour training module and can be counted towards the Driver CPC as approved periodic training.

The seminar will include the following:
  • Operational Driving – Highway code, vehicle checking, vehicle loading
  • Safety & comfort of passengers

  • Drivers hours regulations
  • Tachograph instruments & records

Colin Rowe has been involved in the passenger transport industry for 28 years, starting out as a coach tour driver.  For 13 years he has been involved in all aspects of training for drivers and scheduling staff and for the past seven years has been a Transport Manager – with responsibility for all compliance issues – for several large coach operators.

Who should attend?
This seminar is principally aimed at Transport Managers, Traffic Schedulers and PSV Drivers.  However, the information will be of vital importance to anyone else involved in applying the new Drivers’ Hours Rules which come into effect in April 2007.  It will also be of interest to Tour Managers and planners.
Seminar objectives
The main objectives of the seminar are to highlight the changes to the existing regulations – and by the use of examples and case studies to demonstrate the practical application of the new rules.

Digital Tachograph Training

Who should attend?

This seminar is principally aimed at Transport Managers and PSV Drivers. It is best carried out at the operators depot in small groups but can be adapted to suit any operators requirements.

Seminar objectives

The main objectives of this short intensive seminar are to introduce the concept of digital technology to demonstrate the advantages and to help dispel what appears to be a daunting and confusing amount of activity surrounding these instruments.

The seminar will include the following:

  • An overview of the system
  • Smart cards
  • How recording drivers hours differs to the analogue tachograph instrument
  • Record keeping – How they are kept and can be accessed
  • Mixed operation of digital and analogue
  • Manual entries
  • Understanding the pictograms
  • The paper print out
  • Enforcement and what happens at the roadside check

Safe & Economical Driving Presentation

(For Coach & Bus Drivers)

WHO SHOULD  ATTEND?

This course is aimed principally at PCV drivers but provides useful training particularly for any large vehicle driver as well as car drivers.

OBJECTIVES OF COURSE
To show that the drivers attitude and approach to driving and the techniques adopted will ensure safety and good fuel economy.
THE SEMINAR WILL INCLUDE
  • Vehicle weight distribution loading and plating
  • Weight transfer
  • The forces of accelerating braking and cornering and their effects
  • The effects of drag and rolling resistance
  • The adhesion between tyre and road surface
  • The effects of cross winds
  • Use of the gearbox
  • Using the electric or hydraulic retarder
  • Vehicle  control

Colin Rowe trained as a mechanical engineer. He has been involved with the passenger carrying industry for all his working life in air, rail and road transport.  For twelve years he has been involved in all aspects of technical and conformance training for PCV drivers and scheduling staff and for 6 of those years as a Transport Manager – with responsibility for all compliance issues – for a large coach operator.
